Interpretation

Definition: Explaining or understanding the meaning of the poem in your own words.
Example: I think this poem is about what happens to someones dreams

DREAM DEFERRED
Langston Hughes

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

                                                               Or does it explode?
Significance: The word interpretation is important to poetry because you can guess what the  poem means and not always be right, but you can get a clear understanding about it. This word adds more suspense on what the poem is meaning. It makes poetry better because it makes more people to get into it so they can figure the meaning of the poem.
