Meter

Definition: a basic rhythmic structure of a verse or
lines in a verse
Example: Come live | with me | and be | my loveAnd we | will all | the plea|sures prove
That's a Iamb Meter
Significance: This term is important to poetry because it
helps you understand the difference between stressed and
unstressed words by their syllables. A meter makes poetry
better because it can make you have more emphasis
during the poem.

Rhythm

Definition: A regular repeated pattern of movement
or sound.

Example:
The wind in her hair over there
The chair that sat with her hair
Eyes on eyes
Fire and lye
in the river sky on I

Significance: This term is important to poetry
because they help keep a beat and they also
make the poem flow more easily which makes the
listener more into the poem.




 
Rhyme

Definition: a word, syllable, or line that has
a word that has or ends with a sound that
corresponds to another word
Example:  Silver jet soars across the sky
                   Just like a giant butterfly
The words sky and butterfly are rhyming in this poem.

Significance:  This term is important to poetry because
it just makes it sound better when you read it out loud.
Rhyming makes poetry better because it makes it funner
to read when there is other words rhyming with each other.

Onomatopoeia ;) yeaaaaaa
 
Definition: a sound that associates with the name of the object

Example: Car Crash: "BOOM"

Significance: Onomatopoeia is important to poetry because it makes it
more understandable to the reader to know what sound the object makes
or so they know what i going on. Onomatopoeia makes poetry better because
it makes it more interesting to the reader.



Personification

Definition: adding human characteristics/traits to
something that is non-human.
Example: The bees played hide and seek
with the flowers
Significance: Personification is important to poetry
because it gives more excitement to the poem. Personification
makes poetry better because it makes non- human things kind of come to life.
Imagery

Definition: a visual description involving
your 5 senses.
Example:










Significance:  Imagery is important to poetry because
when it is written you can kind of interact with what the
poet is writing and you can use your senses while
reading
Simile :)

Definition: comparing things with like or as.

ExampleI am as fast as a cheetah
Significance: This term  is important to poetry because
similes make the poetry more interesting. Simile
makes poetry better because it makes it funny and
more to think about what they are trying to say.
